Manveer is a self-taught artist born and raised in West London, UK. In her early teens, her love for the expressive and unbounded nature of Hip-Hop culture showed her the possibilities of conceptualising her journey of self-discovery and reality into forms of art. Thus, Mamamanvz was born.
The nature of Mamamanvz’s upbringing is a prominent influence within her artistic journey. Growing up in a multicultural community, she recognised the heavy battle between traditional culture and a modern lifestyle faced by her generation of British Asian youth. Her self-portraiture is a celebration of the beauty that lies within these two worlds through combination, and reflects the importance of cherishing tradition and upbringing. Mamamanvz aspires to be an element in shaping this ever-changing world by speaking to others through her arts.
As she always craves new forms of artistic expression, experimentation with a wide range of mediums is a notable feature in Mamamanvz’s work, although often her most favourable mediums are dry. She finds much inspiration from unapologetic artists in all fields who break boundaries; influences include M.I.A., Frida Kahlo, Missy Elliott and Richard Hamilton.
